CASE STUDY: CHAMBERS + CHAMBERS ARCHITECTS

Chambers + Chambers Architects is a small residential firm in the San Francisco Bay Area based in Mill Valley, CA. Principal Barbara Chambers makes quiet, sophisticated homes; the interiors have perfect proportions and exude subtle details.

Two years ago, the principal came to a six hour workshop I was presenting on how to market and promote design services using better and more intentional photos. The workshop explores current trends in magazine photography, publishing and presentation. The first phase of our collaboration was the shooting of a half dozen new projects.

This ‘new’ architectural photography freshened a new website and allowed many older projects to be retired. Many of the former were working their way through a submission process for publication, and the first project was published in the Spring 2015.

Our second phase in 2015 will be the shooting of a new group of completed homes with an eye for maintaining the visual viewpoint from the shooting seen here, and expanding my role with more nuanced photo styling and art direction.

Since the recession, Chambers + Chambers has grown from four to twelve people. The goal is not to expand in volume of work but develop a pipeline of interesting projects of the highest quality. Chambers + Chambers looks to me to art direct the photography, oversee the styling and deliver quietly perfect photos. The firm also consults with me about PR and publishing strategies.
