The over the top and full of character, Thomas Britt brings color and style to the homes he designs. This shoot was most unusual as Thomas was not present for the photography in San Francisco, we spoke for 30 minutes by phone developing a visual rapport and making the major adjustments to the rooms to be photographed. I was walking about the Nob Hill rooms in San Francisco making the changes as Thomas in New York with a perfect memory of the space directed me.
Making interior photographs of classic decorating takes the understanding to think and see as a designer and decorator does, then go about as the interior photographer and shoot with that viewpoint. Good design is like a great collage, for me to shoot these rooms well I “paint” with the furnishings to create the right photo composition. Working with someone so talented and well known as Thomas Britt for the first time is a challenge under normal circumstances here it was even more so when he was 3,000 miles away. He was thrilled with the results shown here.
